Bobby Gates started golf at age 14 in Gainesville, Florida.  Unlike most professional golfers Bobby was a late bloomer.  He played many sports like football and basketball before choosing golf.  Standing at 6’5”, golf seemed like the unlikely choice at the time. It turned out to be a great one.

Bobby ended up playing golf at Buchholz High School in Gainesville.  During the summers he competed in several AJGA tournaments. Bobby is a three time AJGA All-American.  He was highly recruited by several colleges across the country and chose to attend Texas A&M University.  During his time at A&M he was named to the PING All-Region team three times and was named to the All Big-Twelve team three times. In 2008 Bobby graduated with a Bachelors in Agricultural Leadership.  Bobby credits going to A&M as one of the best decisions of his life.  Getting married to his bride, Lauren tops the list!

After graduating in 2008 Bobby quickly turned pro and headed to Canada for the Canadian Tour.  He spent a year learning how to travel and compete. He would later  attend Q-School and earn full Nationwide Tour Status for the 2010 season.  Bobby started the year out right taking home the trophy at his first event the Michael Hill New Zealand Open. In doing so, he became the 13th player in Nationwide Tour history to win his tour debut. The following week at the Moonah Classic, Bobby finished 3rd just missing the playoff by one shot.  Bobby would finish the 2010 Nationwide Tour season 16th on the money list. Good enough for his 2011 PGA Tour card.  To make his 2010 year complete Bobby also qualified for the US Open at Pebble Beach. He would go on to make the cut and finish 47th.

In 2011, on the PGA Tour, Gates best finishes included a T5th finish at the Mayakoba Golf Classic, followed by a 6th place finish at the Puerto Rico Open and T6th finish at the Wells Fargo Championship. In 2012, Gates finished T8th at the Humana Challenge and 4 Top 25 finishes. Bobby had his best finish on tour a T4 at the Zurich Classic during the 2013 season. The 2014 season will be Bobby’s fourth year on the PGA TOUR.  Bobby did not play in 2015 due to hip surgery.
